If Allah (swt) & The Prophet (sawa) knew of the evil of A’isha, why did the marriage take place? What was the purpose for it?

This article takes a look at some proofs exclusively from Authentic Sunni Books.

Ameer Al-Mu’mineen (as) explains the reason why The Prophet (sawa) married A’isha in Sahih Al-Bukhari.

Narrated Abu Wail:
When `Ali sent `Ammar and Al-Hasan to (the people of) Kufa to urge them to fight, `Ammar addressed them saying, “I know that she (i.e. `Aisha) is the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ) in this world and in the Hereafter (world to come), but Allah has put you to test, whether you will follow Him (i.e. Allah) or her.

Some may then turn around and say, “why do you only accept part of a hadith?” – meaning why do you neglect the part of the hadith that says: “she (i.e. `Aisha) is the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ) in this world and in the Hereafter (world to come)”..

Within Shia books, such as Kitab Sulaym Bin Qays Al-Hilali, this specific line is not mentioned by the Imam (as). However, assuming it WAS said, what is the reason he said it?

Well, the answer quite clear – taqiyyah.

What? Taqiyyah? Yes. Taqiyyah – The people of Kufa were questioning Ammar (ra) and Al-Hassan (as) on fighting the wife of the Prophet (sawa), saying “are you really fighting the mother of the believers?”. So Ammar responded with the words that Imam Ali (as) taught him to say. Imam Ali (as) would use taqiyyah in softening the hearts by proclaiming she is his wife in this world and then next, before the killer blow “Allah has put you to test, whether you will follow Him (i.e. Allah) or her.”

This method that Imam Ali (as) used is proven in Sahih Bukhari:

Narrated `Ali:
Whenever I tell you a narration from Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ), by Allah, I would rather fall down from the sky than ascribe a false statement to him, but if I tell you something between me and you (not a Hadith) then it was indeed a trick (i.e., I may say things just to cheat my enemy). No doubt I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “During the last days there will appear some young foolish people who will say the best words but their faith will not go beyond their throats (i.e. they will have no faith) and will go out from (leave) their religion as an arrow goes out of the game. So, where-ever you find them, kill them, for who-ever kills them shall have reward on the Day of Resurrection.”

Here, Imam Ali (as) clearly states a lie for the benefit of gaining an upper hand on the enemy. Now is lying permissible? Let us see what Tirmidhi has to say:

Asma bint Yazid narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:
“it is not lawful to lie except in three cases: Something the man tells his wife to please her, to lie during war, and to lie in order to bring peace between the people.”

Sahih Muslim concurs:

Humaid b. ‘Abd al-Rahman b. ‘Auf reported that his mother Umm Kulthum daughter of ‘Uqba b. Abu Mu’ait, and she was one amongst the first emigrants who pledged allegiance to Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ), as saying that she heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
A liar is not one who tries to bring reconciliation amongst people and speaks good (in order to avert dispute), or he conveys good. Ibn Shihab said he did not hear that exemption was granted in anything what the people speak as lie but in three cases: in battle, for bringing reconciliation amongst persons and the narration of the words of the husband to his wife, and the narration of the words of a wife to her husband (in a twisted form in order to bring reconciliation between them).

Of course, this also exposes many of the hadiths of the mukhalafeen that is narrated from Imam Ali (as), such as the following:

Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Hanafiya:
I asked my father (`Ali bin Abi Talib), “Who are the best people after Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ?” He said, “Abu Bakr.” I asked, “Who then?” He said, “Then `Umar. ” I was afraid he would say “Uthman, so I said, “Then you?” He said, “I am only an ordinary person.”

Imam Ali (as) whom has more merits recorded than any other companion is “only an ordinary person” while those who took his rights were better than him? Nice trick Mola (as) !

Very interesting compared to the hadith in Sahih Muslim, where Ali (as) thought of Abu Bakr Liars, Sinful, Treacherous, and Dishonest.

“…He (referring to Ali) demanded a share on behalf of his wife from the property of her father. Abu Bakr said: ‘The Messenger of Allah had said: We do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is (to be given in) charity.’ So both of you (Ali and Abbas) thought him (Abu Bakr) to be a liar, sinful, treacherous, and dishonest…When Abu Bakr passed away and (I have become) the successor of the Messenger of Allah and Abu Bakr, you (Ali and Abbas) thought of me (Umar) to be a liar, sinful, treacherous and dishonest…”

In conclusion, the Prophet (sawa) married Aisha, as commanded by Allah (swt), so that he tests if the people would follow Allah (swt) or Aisha.

May we always be on the path of Allah (swt) and disassociate from A’isha.
