Sayeda Fatima (as) is the Secret of Allah (swt), the first of creations, and a Human Hawra. What was the reason she was named Fatima (as) and what secrets does she hold?

(It is narrated from) Al-Sadiq (as), Ja’far ibn Muhammad, from his father (as), from his grandfather (as): The Messenger of God (sawa) said: The light (Nũr) of Fatima (as) was created before the creation of the earth and the heaven. Some of the people said: “Prophet of God, does that mean she’s not a human?” He (sawa) said: “She is human Hawra’” They said: “O Messenger of God how is it possible that she is a human Hawra’?” He said: “Allah created her from His light before he created Adam when there were only spirits, so when he created Adam she was revealed to Adam” They said: “O Prophet of God and where was Fatima?”. He said: “She was in a place below the Throne”. They said: “O Prophet of God what was her food?”. He said: “Glorifying, hailing and praising (Allah). So when Allah swt created Adam and brought me from his offspring, Allah wanted to make her from my offspring so he made her an apple in heaven and Jibraeel (as) presented her to me saying “Asalamu Alaykum Warahmatullah Wa Barakatahu O Muhammad”, I said “Wa Alaykum Asalaam Warahmatullah my beloved Jibraeel”. He said: “O Muhammad your Lord sends you his blessings”. I said: “From him all blessings come and to him do they all return”. He said: “This apple is a gift to you from Allah from heaven”, so I took it and held it to my chest. He said: “O Muhammad Allah glorified be He says eat it”. So I split it and saw a shining light and was taken aback. He said: “O Muhammad why don’t you eat? Eat it and don’t be afraid, for that light is “Al-Mansurah” (the aided) in the Heavens and “Fatima” on earth”. I said: “My beloved Jibraeel why is she called AlMansurah in the Heavens and “Fatima” on earth?”. He said: “She is called Fatima on earth because she saved (fatamat) her Shia from the fire, and because her enemies have not (fatama) loved her. In the heavens she is “Al-Mansura” because of the words of Allah swt ‘On that day will the believers rejoice, with the aid of Allah, He aids whom he wishes’, meaning the aid of Fatima to her lovers.

Al-Ayyashi in his Tafsir concurs with the idea Fatima (as) is from the Tree of Tuba in Paradise:

Aban bin Taghlib said: “The Prophet (sawa) was kissing Fatima (as) frequently, and for this reason Aisha reproached him for doing so. She said: “O Messenger of Allah (sawa) you are kissing her too much!” He replied her: “Woe to you, when I was in ascension to the heavens, Gabriel passed me by the Tuba tree. Then he gave me one of its fruits and I ate it. Then Allah made that into my seed. Once I landed on earth, I approached Khadeeja (as) and she became pregnant with Fatima (as). Since then, whenever I kiss Fatima (as), I smell the tree of Tuba from her.”

The tree of Tuba is mentioned in the Qur’an in Surat Ar-Ra`d ayah 29:

“Those who believe, and work righteousness, Tuba is for them and a beautiful place of (final) return.” (13:29)

Al-Kulayni also narrates an incredible hadith which is the tafsir of Surat An-Nūr, ayah 35 – Ayat Al-Nũr

“Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth; a likeness of His light is as a niche in which is a lamp, the lamp is in a glass, (and) the glass is as it were a brightly shining star, lit from a blessed olive-tree, neither eastern nor western, the oil whereof almost gives light though fire touch it not– light upon light– Allah guides to His light whom He pleases, and Allah sets forth parables for men, and Allah is Cognizant of all things.” (24:35)
“Abu ‘Abdillãh (sawa) said, concerning the words of Allãh, the Sublime: ‘Allãh is the Light of the heavens and the earth: the likeness of His Light is as a niche, Fãtimah (as); wherein is a lamp, al-Hasan, the lamp in a glass, al-Husayn, the glass as it were a glittering star, Fãtimah is the glittering star among the women of this world; kindled from a blessed tree, Ibrãhīm (as). An olive that is neither of the East nor of the West, neither of Judaism nor of Christianity, whose oil well-nigh would shine, knowledge would burst out by it, even if no fire touched it. Light upon light, Imãm from it (the tree), after Imãm; Allãh guides to His Light whom He will – Allãh guides to the Imãms whom He will; Allãh strikes similitudes for men (an-Nũr, 24:35).’ I said: ‘Or they are as shadows (upon a sea obscure).’ He said: ‘The first, and his companion. Covered by a billow, the third, above which is a billow (above which are clouds), shadows, the second, piled one upon another, Mu‘ãwiyah, may Allãh curse him, and the commotions of the Banũ Umayyah (the Umayyids); when he puts forth his hand, the believer in the darkness of their commotions, well-nigh he cannot see it. And to whomsoever Allãh assigns no light, an Imãm from the children of Fãtimah (as), no light has he, (an-Nũr, 24:40) an Imãm on the Day of Resurrection.’ He said, concerning His words: (Upon the day when thou seest the believers, men and women,) their light running before them, and on their right hands (al-Hadid, 57:12): ‘On the Day of Resurrection the Imãms of the believers run before the believers and on their right hands, till they have set them down in the abodes of the people of Paradise.'”

Sanad: There are two chains for this hadith related by Al-Kulayni (rh)

Opinion of Scholars

For the sake of brevity I will only site the opinion of one respected Marja`, Sayed Sadiq Rohani (hf) – who is the youngest Shia to ever obtain his ijtihad, aged 14, and one whom Sayed Al-Kho’i (rh) (the teacher of our great maraja’ including Sayed Sistani (hf)) would publicly praise.

He states:

I have researched comments from all the Shia  scholars and many of the Sunni scholars and have come to the conclusion that the origin and main material of Hazrate Fatemeh (sa) worldly body is the heavenly, fresh, beautiful and best fruits and trees, and her soul that God bestowed matches this blessed body and it is the secret of God so we cannot recognise the truth of it. The only thing we can understand is the points we have been told by the Islamic narrations, which show that Hazrat Fatemeh’s (sa) luminous soul is made of God’s magnificence and splendour, and that is why

God’s Prophet says,

“Fatemeh (sa) is a human hoori.”

He also stated when answering a Question:

Question:

Please provide the interpretation of this narration which states:

Oh Ahmad! If it wasn’t for you, I would not have created the Universe, and if it wasn’t for Ali, I would not have created you, and if it wasn’t for Fatemeh, I would not have created either of you

Answer:

“Oh God, peace be upon Fatemeh and her father as well as her husband and her children and the secret behind her.”

I have researched all of the speeches made by Shia scholars and many from the Sunni and other schools of thought and have come to the conclusion that the composition of the earthly body of Hazrat Seddigheh Tahereh Fatemeh Zahra (sa) is not the same as ours and is not perishable. In fact, the external and materialistic aspect of this holy existence is from the freshness and beauty of heaven and its tallest trees and best fruit. Similarly, by the wisdom of God, the honorable soul of this great lady is full of divine secrets and mysteries of which we have no understanding or knowledge other than the information received through narrations showing that Fatemeh’s (sa) luminous soul is created from God’s glory and splendor.

This understanding is found in some of the narration books such as Ma’ani Al-Akhbar Sadoogh where Imam Sadiq (as) quotes his grandfather the chief of the Prophets:

“The light of Fatemeh’s (sa) existence was created before the creation of the sky and the earth.”

Some people asked, “Oh God’s Prophet! Is not Fatemeh’s (sa) essence the same as other humans?”

The Prophet (saw) replied: “Fatemeh is a heavenly being in the body of a human and God created her before the creation of Adam, the Universe, and the other human souls… from his luminous light.”

“God created Fatemeh ( human houri ) from His light before Adam creation…”

In this regard, any ambiguity relating to this divine narration found in many of the narration books is easily cleared:

“If it wasn’t for you, I would not have created the Universe, and if it wasn’t for Ali, I would not have created you, and if it wasn’t for Fatemeh, I would not have created either of you.”

Therefore it becomes clear why on the Day of Judgment as Hazrat Fatemeh (sa) enters the fresh and beautiful heaven, all the Prophets from Adam through to even the last and leader of the Prophets Hazrat Mohammad (saw) who rush to see his unrivaled and wise daughter.

And it also becomes clear why after the resurrection of mankind and accountability of their deeds, the Holy Prophet (saw) is the first person to proceed towards heaven, and there is only one group of people that will precede him and that is the honorable group of Hazrat Fatemeh (sa).
