Often we ask the question, why hasn’t the Imam (aj) returned or risen yet? Surely there are more than 313 Shias ready to sacrifice for the Imam (aj)!.. But how many of us would have the true submission of Haroon al-Makki, the companion of Imam al-Sadiq (as)?
Al-Ma’moon al-Raqy said: I was with my Master al-Sadiq (as) when Sahl bin al-Hassan al-Khorasaani entered so he said his greetings of peace then sat and said to him: “Oh son of Rasool-Allah for you compassion and mercy, and you are Ahlul-Bayt and the Imams, what prevents you from claiming your rights, while you have 100,000 Shias in front of you (ready to) strike with the sword?”
So he (as) said to him: “Sit oh Khorasaani, may Allah protect you”,
Then he (as) said: “Oh Hanifa turn on the oven”, so he turned it on until the burning made the coal white with light. Then he said: “Oh Khorasaani! Get up and sit in the oven”
Al-Khorasaani replied: “Oh my Master, Oh son of Rasool-Allah, don’t punish me with fire, exempt me!” so he (as) said: “I exempt you”..
In between all this, Haroon al-Makki entered with his slippers in his hand, and he said: “Peace be upon you oh son of Rasool-Allah”, al-Sadiq (as) then said: “leave the slippers from your hands, and sit in the oven”
So he left the slippers from his fingers and then sat in the (burning) oven, while the Imam (as) spoke to al-Khorasaani about the hadith of khorasaan as if he was witnessing it, then he (as) said: “oh Khorasaani, look what is in the oven”
So he got up to see and found him (al-Makki) in there sitting cross-legged, then he got up from the oven and greeted us. The Imam (as) said: “How many (shia) do you find in Khorasaan like this one (like al-Makki). He (al-Khorasaani) replied: “By Allah, not even one.” The Imam (as) replied: “By Allah, not even one.” then he said: “I am living in a time where we cannot find five (true) supporters for us (as), and we (as) know of the time (we should rise).
